Get to know me
Hello! My name is Emily. I care a lot about documentation and enjoy dabbling in code, which led me to a career where I could combine both. Here are some things about me:
- I joined GitLab in September 2024.
- I'm living that downtown city life in Toronto, Canada (ET).
- Proud pet parent to two tuxedo cats, Sushi and Simon.
- Music is a big part of my life and something I'm always excited to talk about. I’m also learning to play the cello.
- Fitness keeps me grounded. My favourite activities are spin class, yoga, and hiking.
- I love to travel. Recently, I’ve explored Italy (Rome & Amalfi), Amsterdam, and France’s Burgundy region.
- A cause I care about is Shelter Movers, an organization I used to volunteer heavily with and still like to promote whenever I can.
I’m passionate about creating impactful documentation that makes users more successful, while aiming for docs that are as engaging as they are pretty
Working style
For communication, I prefer Slack or GitLab To-Do's over email. I enjoy coffee chats and 1:1 conversations a lot, so feel free to book time in my calendar any time. GitLab is my first all-remote job so bare with me while I adjust to asynchronous work life.
Availability
I typically work from 9am to 5pm Eastern Time. I’m flexible outside these hours when needed, though please avoid scheduling time before 8 am—I’m not an early bird!
Slack and email notifications are off on my phone, so once I log off for the day, I’ll catch your messages in the morning.
