Discuss unsupported Linux distributions on Statement of Support
Problem Statement
On the installation requirements page, we have information about supported Linux distributions. The Statement of Support does not have any information about what it means to run an unsupported Linux distribution or a version that is no longer supported.
It is unclear to the Support team and those who we help what it means to run a Linux distribution that is not supported. Questions people might ask include:
- Does it mean that GitLab Support won't help you at all, even if you are running a supported version of GitLab?
- Does it mean that GitLab Support will help you to the point that we identify that the unsupported nature of the OS is likely the cause of the problem being encountereed?
- Does it mean something else?
Proposal
We should answer the question What impact does using a deprecated Linux distribution have on what GitLab Support offers? [Does it make a difference whether the distro is one we never supported (Gentoo) or one that was previously suppported but is no longer?]
Once answered, we should update the Statement of Support to share this information.
DRI
TBD will act as the DRI for this issue.
I'm happy to own making the updates to the Statement of Support but I'll require insight to determine what that information includes.

Desired Outcome
We have information on the Statement of Support about what it means to run an unsupported OS.
People who look at the page can answer the question "What impact will running an OS that is not supported have on one's ability to get help from the GitLab Support team?".
