Improving release versioning practices in the Release Page

Now that releases can be created in GitLab, it is not clear on how to best version releases or to assign a version.

• Release version is a manual task without a prescriptive direction on how it can benefit a user
• Versions are necessary for the continuity narrative in release governance, so documenting how we recommend to assign a version will help users intuit what works for them.

Proposal

In the Releases documentation, we should expand how one could sequence versions or what we recommend as a practice.

• Survey those using releases internally and craft the best practice from those users
