The button style used for returning to the instance security dashboard is confusing
Problem to solve
- Using a primary button for navigating back to the security dashboard is not optimal:
Primary buttons are the single most important action that moves the task forward within a context and thus have the most emphasis placed upon them. There should only be one call to action in any given context. Primary buttons are recognized by their solid color, bold text labels, and must use one of the four elementary button styles: Info (blue), Success (green), Warning (orange), or Danger (red).
- Also, the green color is used for saving or adding:
Green indicates success. It communicates: save, create, add, available, done, approved, or resolved.
Summary
While the green primary button is correctly used below in the Add projects button, using a green primary button for navigating back to the security dashboard is confusing and against the design system guidelines mentioned above.
Intended users
- Delaney (Development Team Lead)
- Sasha (Software Developer)
- Devon (DevOps Engineer)
- Sidney (Systems Administrator)
- Sam (Security Analyst)
Proposal
Change the green primary button for navigating back to the security dashboard to a tertiary button.
A tertiary button is the default button category. Tertiary buttons still have an outlined styling but cannot have one of the four elementary button styles. They are typically used for less important actions that are not promoted to the user.
