Unable to create custom roles at group or instance levels

Problem

On my latest version of GDK, which has an Ultimate license, when I try to create a custom role after going to Group Settings > Roles and Permissions, I see the “Failed to create role.” error. See screenshot below.

Custom roles feature (at the group level) was working for me on the older version of my GDK and older commits of the GitLab app however after the updates it stopped working.

Instance level custom role creation is also failing with the same error for me.

Solution

I'm able to create group and instance level custom roles.

Also, the current error is not helpful as it is not showing me the reason why the custom role creation failed. Adding more context to the failure would be helpful in understanding the problem.

Workaround

The API can be used to create custom roles.
