Expanding top level issues categories for high-level issue organization
Issues in the GitLab CE tracker normally fall into one of 3 categories:
- Feature Proposals
- Bugs
- Support Requests
Right now there are:
- around 4,800 open feature proposals
- around 1,740 open bugs
- ~80 support requests
This leaves around half of the open issues. They must either be:
- Uncategorised
- Unlabelled/Untriaged
We should fix this
We need to categorise the other open issues that fall outside of these boundaries:
- Maybe we can find further top-level categories for issues
- (I know that ~enhancement issues sometimes fall between the cracks)
- Maybe we can find a lot of issues that can be closed
- Duplicates
- Out of scope issues
- Out of date issues
This sounds like an ideal job for a label suggestions system. This uncategorised subset of our issues could provide a good test bed for such a system. Those that cannot be categorised may be issues that require a new top-level category.
