Special characters contains characters which some will find hard to type on their keyboards

The specialCharacters contains characters that are difficult for US and Australian keyboards to type: the £ and the € characters.

It would be better if it only contained printable ASCII characters. And perhaps even leaving out the backslash (\) which is often used to escape other characters in certain contexts and could create confusion or problems (either for the user or for a programmer).
