Updating to replace `he or she` with `they`

Why is this change being made?

In keeping with our pronoun guidance, he or she does not adequately encompass the subject it is intended to signify. Changing these formulations to they - a non-gender specific pronoun - we can be more inclusive with our language while also making these passages more easily readable.

Author Checklist
