FMLA/Sick Leave Policy Definition/Changes
Why is this change being made?
Employers are obligated to notify employees of their FMLA policy. The FMLA related changes were made to explain how FMLA is calculated and administered at GitLab, and explain how it runs concurrently with GitLab's PTO policy and other leave types. Our sick leave policy was updated to ensure cohesive messaging to all team members, and prevent confusion between different policies for US vs Non-US team members. Communications
"As we continue to grow as a public company, we must remain compliant with US Federal and/or State regulations within the United States to support employees who are taking time away from work to recover from their own serious illness, to care for a family member recovering from a serious illness, or to bond with their newborn or newly adopted child. Lynde Meiers, our Senior Absence Management Partner, has implemented changes to further clarify and define the process for our US-based team members when they are out of work due to a serious medical condition.
If (as a US-based team member) you are away from work due to a serious illness, caring for a family member recovering from a serious illness, or bonding with a newborn or newly adopted child lasting 5 or more continuous calendar days (or non-continuous calendar days if for the same condition), please email leaves@gitlab.com as described in our updated FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) handbook section [https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/total-rewards/benefits/general-and-entity-benefits/inc-benefits-us/#family-medical-leave-act]. Please note: this change does not impact or change GitLab's 25-day "don't ask, do tell" PTO policy. Instead, if approved, FMLA will run concurrently with this policy as well as our other sick leave policies (including COVID leave). Team members will still receive 100% of their pay from GitLab during the first 25 days; while also receiving Federal and/or State mandated job protection.
Please see the related MR: !95227 (merged) and send all questions to leaves@gitlab.com. Thank you."
