update gitlab-ci yaml and docs with updated branch name

Related to #71 (closed) Part of the work to switch to using main branch in related issue

  • Update comment in gitlab-ci.yaml (it appears to use a CI variable and does not have master hardcoded)
  • Update the documentation in the repository to reference main branch and add a note about the transition.
