CE port of "Update the elasticsearch indexer"
What does this MR do?
Ports the change in https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ee/merge_requests/13992 to CE.
The indexer simply isn't used in CE, so I've skipped the pipeline. As long as the EE MR is green, that should be fine.
We use the indexer extensively in the EE specs. However, to ensure omnibus packages v1.2.0, we'll need a separate MR there as well: omnibus-gitlab!3331 (merged)
