What does this MR do and why?

Automatic syncing of security/master into canonical failed, so this is a manually created merge request to sync those changes from https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/release/tasks/-/issues/5603. The changes were already reviewed and deployed to GitLab.com on the security repository.
