Adding a Release Management Shadowing Program Template
The template is used to create training/onboarding issues for people wanting to participate in the Release Management Shadowing program.
This template will allow the Trainee to learn async and join a Release Manager during some of the rotations to observe and ask questions.
What's coming next:
The idea is to give people that showed interest in https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1dyUQ32Y4m8d-0n21d8R8vcS-y_Lc9OO4B1xgxoUgO5A/edit#responses a training and scheduling issue. Based on the collected email we have a wide spread of roles interested in this, so I thought to break this in two parts: the first part (this template) for pure learning and training in observer/read-only mode, the second part for people really interested in joining the rotation will be a proper RM Onboarding issue (learning could be skipped) where ARs need to be open to give them access to the various systems and tooling. After the latter is complete we would move to a reverse shadow rotation and upon graduation to a full rotation.
- Trainee or Delivery EM creates a RM Shadowing Program onboarding issue per Trainee
- Trainee specifies timeslots available for shadowing a RM
- Trainee goes through the material to build basic knowledge
- Trainee gets assigned to a Release Manager based on his preference and https://about.gitlab.com/community/release-managers/
- Trainee sync and async observe, ask questions and participates in key parts of the Release Management (listed at the end of the template)
- (not part of this template) Trainee, when ready, if wishing to do so, joins RM with full powers
- (not part of this template) Trainee is reverse shadowed by a seasoned Release Manager
- (not part of this template) Trainee, when ready to work alone, joins as a primary Release Manager a rotation in their timezone.
